Corruption

In our country, the existence of a word “Corruption” is one of the biggest reason why the Philippines is still listed one of the poorest countries in the world. Corruption has always been one of the major issues and concerns inside the country especially in politics. There are many political fights happened, different administration presented their evidences to corrupt individuals, and lots of people who are in position attempted to remove those names with their personal interests in the service but no one succeed in cleansing the country’s government. Through the years, Philippines has been always in a constant awful situation due to corruption and showed a number of political scandals or incidents to its constituents that our government never seemed to solve. That’s why the word “corruption” in the Philippines is no longer stranger to us.

Corruption refers to a form of criminal activity or dishonesty in service and it can simply define as stealing money from the people. Filipinos are tired hearing of this kind of issues in their country and they kept question themselves on how to get rid of this problem. There are many survey studies in the world that greed of money and power is one of the main reason why corruption still exist nowadays. Additionally, higher levels of market and political monopolization, low levels of democracy, weak civil participation and low political transparency, (Wikipedia). For that reason, the country’s economy are all affected and suffers from poverty, poor educational attainment, limited medical tools and medicine, and low economic growth.

Poverty is one the persistent impact or effects on corrupt activities in our country because of their private gain and we the Filipino people are the one who suffer with their illegal practices. In economic growth, the Philippines has been on lower levels of investment, lower quality of investment, and higher level of indirect taxations of huge companies because some of them are being protected by people who are in higher position in the government. Moreover, corrupt government also has negative effects to young people in the country in terms of the quality of education because the existing issue increases the costs of education for instance, purchasing very expensive tools of education from foreign country for us to produce highly young individuals internationally and to increase our educational standards like other advanced school around the world. However, obviously we cannot able to have the same level of advancement like any international school or open us an opportunity in other country because of their educational standard is so difficult to qualify because our government do not offers scholarship for the Filipino youth to learn internationally. It shows that the destined funding for education in order to produce competitive and innovative individual to represent our country all over the world were went to the wrong pockets of many officials and personalities from national governments, civil society, judiciary functions, large and small businesses, military and other services.

The difficult part of having this existing problem in our country, corruption affects the poorest the most, in rich or nations who have low economic income because it undermines political development, democracy, economic growth, and environment including people’s health and knowledge. According to our dear Pope Francis III, “Corruption is paid by the poor” in result, poor Filipino people will remain poor. Corruption is one of the hardest and major battles globally because up to these years, poverty still exists as one of the issues that every country tries to end that constant problems from its nation. Undoubtedly, corrupt practices from government and private sectors affect the overall progress of the nation and the general well-being of its people. This actively demonstrates that anti-corruption policies must be improved in order to increase the effectiveness of development programs aimed at reducing poverty. And lastly, the current government must provide the youth an effective quality of education and prepare them with variety of knowledge and skills to challenge poverty in a certain country especially the Philippines.
